“Craft the leather is a training project, upon invitation only, focusing on a group of talented young designers from all over the world. Ten Schools selected among the most prestigious and innovative international fashion and design institutes.

The project’s objectives are to enhance the knowledge of Vegetable-Tanned Leather and enrich the technical know-how of designers/makers longing to start a career into the international fashion system and to stimulate their own creativity by putting them to the test of the final competition at the fair Le Cuir a Paris.”

The project celebrates the inherent diversity of vegtable-tanned leather. Using digital fabrication tools such as laser cutting and traditional handcraft techniques the accessories present the unique characteristics of the material and offer a new perspective regarding the joinery of leather components.

The links are made by leather cords that are riveted, utilizing leather’s ability to expand and extract under different conditions. Wet-moulding technique exclusively applied to veg-tanned leather was practised to achieve the volume of the triangular case, an element of the changeable chain bag, as well as to shape the sunglasses frame and nose supports. In the backpack’s straps, it allowed forming unique nodes, where the chain required the change of direction.
